How to blossom in flirty florals
Until the end of last year, I had never heard the phrase ditsy florals, roger vivier shoes 2012, but now, as you will shortly discover, ditsy florals are everywhere. It's retail speak for the multitude of dinky, discount roger vivier shoes, small floral prints that are covering dresses, shirts, jackets and swimwear this summer and which are set to make the streets look a prettier place.
Think the classic Liberty Tana lawn fabric and you have the idea. Ditsy florals are very appealing, and, as I write, the corridors of Vogue are filled with rails full of them.
Unlike some trends, cheap isabel marant sneakers, they are perfectly suited to the cheaper end of the market, since you don't need the finest tailors nor fabrics to run up a pretty little floral dress or shirts, so it follows that all the big chains are majoring on them.
However, ditsy is as ditsy goes, and it's not the easiest look to pull off if you're not young - actually, if you're not very young. Tiny floral prints, although theoretically youthful, can indeed be hugely ageing and mumsy. Darling buds they may be, but beware of the contrast between them and cleavage that is other than in the first flush.
I find it heartbreaking to admit, but other than on a very good day, on holiday and with a suntan, roger vivier heels, I can't get away with wearing them any longer, even though my wardrobe still houses a large number of vintage-style tea-dresses. I keep them partly for their beauty and partly because I can't quite give up on the younger woman I was, who was able to fling one of them on with a pair of sling-backs and be ready for office, party or walk in the park.
Now, when I do similarly, I see my old English teacher staring back out of the mirror, the one with the dyed hair who thought there was Asset: Whistles little point in my attempting A-levels. So perhaps I am a little prejudiced, but I think the message still holds. Ditsy florals need to be handled with care.
A little leather will toughen them up -in the shape of a jacket or a waistcoat, as will a full-on strappy platform sole which will stop them looking too girly. Try to avoid the floral and cardi mode if you want your ditsies to look fashionable. Instead, combine them with tailoring. A dress will look good with an oversized boyfriend jacket, a shirt with a pair of highwaisted, giuseppe zanotti sandals, wide-legged pants. Or, conversely, use a big floral scarf to soften up a body-con shape or plain jacket.
How to be a charmer this Valentine's Day
Gentlemen, I have the answer to the pressing question of what to buy your beloved for Valentine's Day. Jeweller Annina Vogel is making a guest appearance today and next Saturday at Matches boutique in Marylebone, where you can visit her pop-up shop and create a vintage charm necklace or bracelet for your love.
Annina's creations are a favourite among London's fashion world. She works with vintage gold and combines Victorian chains with old charms collected over time. The bonus of going to Matches is that you are able to pick out the charms yourself rather than buy a ready-made piece, so you can match them to the person. To get an image of her work, roger vivier sandals, check out her website.
Her creations are not cheap, giuseppe zanotti shoes sale, but they are gifts for life. Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse for purchasing one of these, but they also make ideal anniversary or commemorative presents. Saturdays in Marylebone have the added attraction of an excellent farmers' market, which is held just behind Matches.
The Conservative Party's winter fundraiser, the Black and White party, was held last week in Battersea Park. The black and white theme was observed by most. Dave eschewed black tie and went for a plain suit and red tie, but Samantha looked impeccable and chic in floor-length black vintage Ralph Lauren. Scanning the tables and the guest list booklet you could spot that Nicky Haslam was a guest of The Conran Shop, sneakers isabel marant, Bryan Ferry of Daylesford and Mr and Mrs Boris Johnson of Brora, demonstrating that the new Tories appear to be keen on retail therapy. But more strikingly, their raven-haired First Lady apart, Tories definitely prefer blondes. The room was stuffed with glamorous blondes of a similarly groomed nature, often towering over their somewhat shorter partners. Tory beauties like Santa Sebag Montefiore, Ffion Hague, Kate Reardon and Alice Bamford hugely outnumbered the brunettes and added a glistening lustre to the proceedings. If it's true that blondes have more fun, can we therefore assume that the same is true of the Tories?
Save our High St from the big freeze
A couple of years ago, isabel marant sneakers, Jon Asgeir Johannesson came bounding into this country like some Norse god on a massive shopping spree, taking home a large chunk of our High Street. Karen Millen, giuseppe zanotti heels, Oasis, Warehouse, House of Fraser and Debenhams are just a few of the many who have been, until now, partially owned by the Icelandic Baugur Group, headed by black-shirt wearing Johannesson. Now that group is close to collapse,Roger vivier uk, and when many of those same brands are struggling to lure customers in, they are going to need new investment. There are many people out there, both individuals and private equity groups, circling like the proverbial vultures over fashion brands, hoping to snap them up for next to nothing, keep their costs low and sell them on when the situation improves. Some could ruin a company if they only look at the bottom line and don't pay attention to what makes that company unique, while others are likely to be improving benefactors. Luckily,Roger vivier flats, Baugur only partially owned most of the brands, but let's hope that it's the good guys who get to take over a stake in assets such as Whistles, Matthew Williamson and All Saints.
True style is all in the detail
When times are tough, isabel marant, we crave softness and cosseting and you can see it creeping in all around. It's bye-bye to hard-edged minimalism and perfect emptiness and hello to a more traditional style.
At home, everyone's considering carpet again, investing in old-fashioned standard lamps, wallpapering their bathrooms and ditching the blinds for second-hand curtains.
Not only is this all more comfortable, isabel marant hiver 2013, but it's also often less costly than creating an immaculate bare space where every floorboard and door handle has to be expensive and exquisite.
Traditional: Comfy thing
Junk shops are often bargain treasure troves if you like antique clutter, but hopeless if your home is a temple of minimalism where the only appropriate furnishings come from pricey Italian furniture stores and Scandanavian websites.
The simpler the piece, the more important that it's flawless and of high quality, whereas you can get away with old market finds more easily if the rooms are more crowded - let's say layered. Fashion is similarly affected. If you're spending money on clothes you want it to show.
The desire to have one more plain black dress sitting in your wardrobe indistinguishable from the five already there is at an extremely low ebb. Most people are craving clothes that have a stand-out factor. Gone is the day of the expensively distressed T-shirt and messy jeans.
People are going to want this season's beautiful, soft linens and cottons, floral prints and patchworks (crafty elements are very now). Hard-edged chic is going to be taking a back-seat in favour of more reassuring, giuseppe zanotti shoes, dare I say it, comfortable clothes.
