Longtime Team Canada, NHL assistant coach Wayne Fleming dies at 62
CALGARY, Alberta, March 26 () -- Longtime NHL assistant coach and Team Canada official Wayne Fleming has died at age 62 in Calgary after battling brain cancer, Hockey Canada announced Tuesday.The group said Fleming, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, died Monday.Fleming served as an assistant coach for the New York Islanders, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Calgary, Edmonton and Tampa Bay at various time during a span between 1997 and 2012.In between, he was vice-president of hockey operations and head coach of Canada's National Men's Team,[url=]christian louboutin sale[/url], leading Team Canada behind the bench at the 2001 and 2002 IIHF World Championships while serving under Pat Quinn as the Canadiens won the 2002 Olympic gold medal in Salt Lake City.Earlier he had worked under legendary Team Canada head coach Dave King to help the squad take a silver medal at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France -- Canada's first Olympic hockey medal since winning bronze in 1968."Hockey Canada has lost a great friend, and the hockey world has lost not only a tremendous coach, but a wonderful man," Hockey Canada Chief Executive Bob Nicholson said.
