Political Economy explores how political forces in Washington and elsewhere in the world shape the economy and how corporate agendas influence political institutions and politicians. The blog offers new perspectives on the day's top economic and business stories with exclusive interviews with government officials and lawmakers, commentary from influential economists and analysis from Post reporters. The financial reform bill didn't break up the banks, set leverage requirements in statute or do any of a number of other things that would've really hurt the financial industry. The auto bailout was designed to preserve the existence of America's auto industry, and even the Economist has admitted that the Obama administration did everything in its power to "restore both firms to health and then get out as quickly as possible." The various stimulus measures have been designed to directly support businesses or indirectly support the people who those businesses rely on."
"Given the fragile state of the economy, this is no time to be raising taxes on the middle class, as nearly every dollar taxed is nearly a dollar not spent buying goods and services. At the same time,Gucci 247279 F4CLG 9662, even conservative economists acknowledge that while the rich account for a disproportionate share of consumer spending, raising their taxes by a modest amount won't alter that spending or have much of a short-term impact on the economy. The reason: Wealthy people make considerably more than they spend,Gucci Handbags hot sale, and they save the rest."
Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman's contribution of $119 million to her own campaign to be governor of California has broken the record for personal spending by a candidate,Nike Free.
The record she broke was set by another business executive: news mogul Michael Bloomberg, who spent spent $109 million last year in his campaign to win his third term as New York mayor.
Recent polls show Whitman,France Oakley, whose personal fortune is estimated at $1.3 billion, with a slight lead over Democratic opponent Jerry Brown.
Whitman and another former high-profile, high-tech CEO, Hewlett-Packard's Carly Fiorina, both running as Republicans, on Wednesday won endorsements from Nancy Reagan.
The wife of the late President Ronald Reagan said Whitman would be a "good governor" and that Fiorina "knows what needs to be done to move our country forward."
Fiorina is hoping to unseat Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif,Oakley Occhiali.).
Well, I suppose one could say that Meg is contributing to the economic stimulus. that is,Occhiali da Sole Oakley, if actual working people are getting [at least most of] this money for doing jobs related to the campaign. I hope that's the case. Otherwise, it's nothing more than a grand exercise in ego-feeding by a woman with more money (and ambition) than sense.
And, BTW, Meg, I'd re-think that wardrobe if I were you. Shiny baby-girl pink doesn't flatter anyone, especially a CEO in her mid-50s who's trying to sell herself as a serious politician. Absolutely disgusting. Both of them must have walked away with hefty payoffs, when they left or were eased out of their CEO jobs.
Then take the case of Palin and Beck, they are taking the Republicans and Tea party folks for a ride. They have already pocketed millions in the last 2 years by bashing Obama and spreading their lies. Wake up America!
