LONDON, Sept. 12 () -- The United Nations has contracted Selex ES to provide unmanned aerial systems to support its peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.The contract has a three-year period of performance and two option years. Its monetary value was not disclosed.Selex ES,[url=http://www.ksacinc.com/cheapbeats/?]cheap beats[/url], a Finmeccanica company, said it will use its FALCO UAV system for the contract. Multiple remotely piloted aircraft will be supplied, as well as ground control stations, support equipment and logistics support.The FALCO is an unarmed medium-altitude, medium-endurance UAV that can operate from semi-prepared airstrips with fully automated takeoff and landing capability. Company pilots, maintenance engineers and information analysts will be deployed as part of the contract package, Selex ES said.The Democratic Republic of Congo is a former Belgian colony. Fighting between the central government and various rebel forces led to the deployment of United Nations peacekeepers to the country in 2001.When the FALCO unmanned aerial system will be deployed to the country was not detailed.
