Noongar Aboriginal art still connected to the land,Oakley Italy
An exhibition by Noongar artist Troy Bennell focuses on the connection with culture and country.
All of the 20 odd works in Nganyang Boodja Ngarlang Boodja: My Country, Our Country has a story to tell,Gucci Handbags hot sale, says Troy. Some reflect current environmental issues such as the argument over use of the Yarragadee aquifer. Others portray the importance of fire or the cycle of the six seasons on the Noongar year.
Underpinning them all is connection. "One of the main things is talking about that family connection and value and where you come from," says Troy. "That's one of the man focuses of the exhibition."
In his exhibition notes, Troy writes
For us there was that generation gap where everything was taken away, Nan could speak language fluently but didn't because of the fear from the past when they weren't allowed to and were watched closely. He himself learned a great deal in his younger days as part of the Middar Dance Group from people such as Richard Walley and other members.
In a way,Oakley Pas Cher, Troy's been preparing for this exhibition all his life,Gucci Handbag Outlet, he says. Knowledge about Aboriginal culture passed on from the family and from mentors such as Richard Walley and other dance group members have found expression through the art.
It's interesting to look back on the early works, says Troy. He began painting watercolour landscapes after attending a workshop with Lance Chadd. "I have still kept my first painting that I did at that workshop."
Today, abstracts hang beside the watercolours and the destruction of the environment is represented along with the beauty of country. People paint the way they do for a reason, says Troy. In the desert, hogan scarpe, traditional dot painting is still practised. Here in the south,France Lunettes Oakley, Noongars have been open to a wide range of influences and lifestyle. "We live a different life," says Troy. "We drive cars, wear Nike shoes and our Reebok hats but the main thing with the artworks is that we have our culture. That's the whole idea of the artworks; showing that the connection is still there."
