Creating A Poison-Free Household For English Bulldogs
The more you spend time with english bulldogs, the more you will be convinced that dogs are indeed curious creatures. An english bulldog will not give up easily once something has caught his attention. That is why utmost care is needed to keep your house free of things that can poison and cause danger to your english bulldogs.
Here are some tips in creating a poison-free household for english bulldogs:
1. Not all plants are safe for Fido. In fact, many household plants can poison your beloved four-legged friend. These poisonous plants include but not limited to azalea, daffodil, oleander, lily-of-the-valley, yew, jasmine, oaks, mistletoe and buttercups. Toxicity of these plants may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, burning and irritation of the mouth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], depression, nervous excitement or worst death. If you cannot or do not want to get rid of these plants, you should at least keep them out of your pet's reach to prevent them from being poisoned.
2. Cleaning agents such as laundry detergent, toilet bowl cleaners, pool chemicals, dishwasher detergents and drain cleaners contain hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and phosphoric acid. These chemicals can cause ulcer in the mouth, larynx and esophagus, lack of appetite, vomiting, panting and shock. It is strongly recommended that these items are placed in a locked storage to prevent danger of toxicity. When cleaning the house,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], pets should not be allowed to gain access to the area where cleaning agents are used.
3. Give medication only when directed or advised by your vet. Take note that over the counter medications such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) are harmful to dogs even at very low doses. These drugs can cause kidney and liver damage.
4. A chocolate is as tempting to your dog as it is to you. However, chocolates contain a compound called theobromine that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. Large quantity of chocolate ingested may cause staggering, labored breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, tremors, fever, heart rate increase, arrythmia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], seizures, coma and death. Therefore you should never leave chocolates unattended or give even just a little bit to your dog.
5. Automotive products such as oil, gasoline and antifreeze and lawn or garden chemicals such as fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides should be stored in areas away from your pets. When treating the lawn or garden, dogs should be kept away from the area until the area dries completely. Read product labels carefully to determine the correct usage of these products.
