Making A Difference
So as you probably noticed the latest celebrity trend is adopting kids from poor third world countries. Celebs like Angelina Jolie, Madonna,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Meg Ryan are a few of the latest Hollywood A-List to adopt. The reason given by most celebs is that their trying to save the world. Ok, maybe they dont exactly say that but its basically about them saving these poor children from poor underpriviledged countries by giving them a new life in Hollywood,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which as we all know is one of the best place to bring up a child,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not!
But one has to wonder,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is this the right step taken? I mean yeah u wanna do something for poor third world countries so u take a kid home and bring it up into your family but how does this effect the child? Ok lets take Angelina Jolie for example. The woman has 3 adopted kids and one biological kid with Brad Pitt. Now Brad and Angelina are pretty much Hollywood royalty. Oh and lets not forget their UNICEF ambassadors with a plight to bring awareness to the world about the people less fortunate. But lets face it their kids are gonna be brought up in the Hollywood scene and their face are gonna be tabloid covers for a good part of their life. Is that a healthy way for a child to grow up? Brad and Angelina may be one of the most beautiful couples in the world but are they the best people to be parents? I mean the story of how they became a couple is enough to doubt they personal morals. Same goes for Madonna. If you've ever read her life story (if u havent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], just wikipedia her up when u have nothing better to do) you'll realise that Madonna hardly qualifies for Mother of the Year Award. But yet the moment she announced that she was adopting a baby from Malawi,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the media went crazy and everyone wanted a photo of the little tot. So their saving the world and gaining popularity and money all at the same time! Who said celebs had no brains?
They make the covers of tabloid magazine and pages of the newspapers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], kinda overated dont u think? It's great that they wanna help but taking a look at children that grew up in the spotlight eg Nicole Richie,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],Drew Barrymore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Kate Moss,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one can only help to wonder whether they are gonna be living a nice healthy lifestyle that normal teenagers do or are they gonna be living a life filled with drugs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], alcohol, anorexia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], broken relationships and rehab visits? Is that really making a difference in the world?
One big multicultural family:Angelina Jolie,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],Maddox,Shiloh,Zahara and Brad Pitt
Dont get me wrong,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I dont think all celebs who adopt are do it for personal gain and I know I know you can make a difference just by helping one person but in my opinion with that kind of fame and influence, celebs should use their power to make a bigger difference in more people's life. I just think that well there's more to it than meets the eye when celebs adopt kids from poor countries. I personally feel that if you really want to help the poor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can start by taking a cue from people like Bill and Melinda Gates,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Oprah Winfrey and Muhammad Yunus.
For those of you who dont know who Muhammad Yunus is,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he a Bangladeshi banker and economist who recently received the Noble Peace Prize for "his efforts to create economic and social developement from below". What Yunus did was so simple and so life changing for the people of Bangladesh. He basically started this concept of microedit that is the extension of small loans to entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans. Yunus also happens to be the founder of the Grameen Bank. Now that's what I call making a difference.
