Village life in Iceland
I arrived, and I had never before lived in a small village. Though "small" is almost too big, V is tiny. 300 inhabitants, and almost all of them somehow related to each other. Interesting, when you think of it. But that is how this country managed to keep is genes as, erm, pure as they are today. When you look at the genes of any Icelandic person, in most cases you can track them back to the first settlers on the Island. And hell, they are proud of it!
Same thing with the horses and the sheep,Roger Vivier Online Store, by the way. They don't let them mix with anything that's not Icelandic either.
Anyways. So there I was, in that tiny tiny village. I met my boss,Duvetica Piumini Italia Outlet, she picked me up from the petrol station (v and tried to show me the city within 5 minutes.
In the back of the car were her two children, one of them 4 and the other 9 years old. They kept giving me some kind of a plant they had just picked to eat. It tasted really sour, giuseppe zanotti sneakers, but the children evidently loved it so I ate it and tried to keep up with (my boss) explaining V to me.
When you drive up to the hostel where I worked, piumini duvetica outlet, you pass the retirement home on the right, the kindergarden on the left,Parajumpers jacken damen, then straight on until you see that white house with a blue roof. If the wind is not yet strong enough to blow your car away, you will probably see chickens running around the house and a black and white dog jumping, trying to find someone to play with. That dog is Panda,Parajumpers Coat Online, the most intelligent dog I've ever seen.
So. One of the first things I did was to go to the beach. A little sidenote: There are almost only black beaches in Iceland. Remember, volcanic Island! So don't come up to people in V asking for the "black beach" . Kind of odd and since they have a slightly strange kind of humour, you will probably be sent to the other side of the Island, where there are black beaches, parajumpers Parka Piumini, too. You really can't miss the beach. Go South, or just follow the sound of the waves. Man, never have I seen sand as black as on that beach!
So since I was gonna stay there for a longer period, I decided I had to make friends. Dear people, cheap soccer cleats for sale, making friends in Iceland is not easy.
Not easy at all. Almost all the girls that had been working at the hostel before me were not able to make friends with anyone from the village. And I warn you: Do not be too friendly or too hyperactive! That doesn't make you seem amable at all. That is what I had to find out. And don't make it too obvious that you're a tourist,Billigt Moncler Dunjacka Stockholm Rea, if you really want to make friends with them. If that is what you want, you should avoid only wearing waterproof trousers,Moncler Dunjacka, a rain coat,Roger Vivier Flats, hiking shoes etc. At least not when you're in a village . Best dress like you don't care at all, and if you want to keep a fancy souvenir from Iceland, buy yourself one Lopapeysa for yourself, wear jeans with it and you're Icelandic straight away :)
Getting Icelandic village people to like you will, in most cases, have to include drinking alcoholMaybe join in the pub in the evening and you'll be lucky, since drunk there are no nicer people to be seen than the Icelandic. They will hug you, kiss you, eventually invite you to party with them. But oh do not expect that friendship to last until the next morning! Whoever I met on the street the following day pretended not to know me, even though only a couple of hours ago we were standing on the tables together, singing (can one call it singing?) kitschy Icelandic songs. But no, the next morning they seemed to be kind of embarrassed to have been hanging around with some foreigner.
To explain this: Iceland does not exactly have a big history of international relations. urgh), but they do not import anything. Iceland is a little ecosystem by itself.
Since the island itself is quite big but only so few people live on it, almost every Icelandic family owns its own share of land. On that land, they keep their own horses, sheep etc. Many of them will have their meat from there, and go there every now and then to slaughter some of their animals or go horseriding. Near Selfoss, there are some greenhouses where they produce Tomatoes and other stuff that doesn't naturally grow in Iceland. There are lots of small fisheries that provide good and fresh fish, as opposed to the big commercial fisheries. Iceland is quite happy the way it is right now, and if they for example joined the European Union (which the government wants, I know,http://duveticaonlineitaly.albirank.net/, but the people don't) - commerce would take charge and ruin everything that Iceland has ever been proud of.
The quite beauty of the land would probably be disturbed by some ugly hotels being built in the middle of nowhere, the one road that circles the Island would probably be extended to the more difficult areas to reach, the sights would not be free to visit for anyone anymore but more likely become restricted areas with fences around them.
But really,http://giuseppezanottimenssneakers.webmium.com/, people. It will not be long before this will happen. Tourism in Iceland increases with every year, and it will not be long before you will not be able to walk up a cliff with the fear of falling down anymore because there sure will be fences to secure your safety. The charm that Iceland has at the moment is the beauty of its landscape without any human having done anything with it. But this will change,http://duveticaaustraliaoutlet.halod.com/, and I would advice you to go there as soon as possible, if you are interested in the original beauty.
So yeah, this is why they are quite hostile towards tourists. Of course I make it sound worse than it really is. You will find many friendly people in Reykjav since it's the city, and maybe even in the villages if you bring alcohol. But this again will be difficult by itself,Billigt Moncler Jacka Outlet Online moncler Jackor återförsäljare Sverige, since the Icelandic alcohol policy is the most ridiculous I have ever heard. In V for example, the Alcoholshop is open one hour a day, except for friday, when it's open for 2 hours. That's what it's like in winter, when there are 3 hours of daylight. The sneaky thing is, the opening times seem to change every day and you never know when you'll be able to buy alcohol. You can't buy it at the petrol station or the supermarket, since they're not allowed to sell anything that has more than 2,25 % elsewhere than in those alcoholshops.相关的主题文章:
