A proposed $3.7 trillion budget proposed on February 14, 2011 by the Obama administration leaves for later a fiscal reckoning on the massive social security program. This lays the ground work for even more debate on the various aspects of the program in the future which could affect an individual's claim.
"I want to make clear, first, that Social Security isn't contributing to the deficit in the next 5 to 10 years or considerably beyond that," Jack Lew, Obama's budget director, told reporters at a briefing on the budget proposal. "Social Security is something that we need to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] address in the long term.
Looking at [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the program's distant horizon, a commission formed by Obama last year to tackle the federal [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] deficit proposed raising the Social Security retirement age and cutting future benefits. Obama did not adopt the commission's Social Security proposals in his budget plan.
In a statement that could leave the door open for negotiation [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] on modest benefit cutbacks for future beneficiaries, Obama said he "will not accept an approach that slashes benefits for future generations. No current beneficiaries should see their basic benefits reduced."
There are many aspects of the Social Security Program that could [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] affect you in coming years. Social Security is a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Federal program that most people believe only provides retirement benefits. This is not the case. There is a complex disability component to the Social Security program.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is part of the Federal Social Security program that provides monthly disability [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] payments to those who are younger than full retirement age, unable to engage in substantial employment activities and have enough quarters of work credit to qualify for benefits.
Supplement Security Income (SSI) is part of the Social Security Program that provides monthly disability benefits to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] those who have not worked long enough to qualify for SSDI.
Who is disabled and who [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is not disabled has evolved into a complex question that is not always easily answered and may become even more complex in coming years as politicians look for ways to trim the national deficit.
Already Social Security denies approximately 70% - 75% of the applications for disability. Approximately 60% -70% of these denials are turned into accepted claims after either reconsideration or a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge. Having a Social Security [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Disability Attorneys Lawyer working for you at these stages can greatly increase your chances of success at the reconsideration or Administrative Law Judge hearing level before the Social Security Administration.
If you are applying for Social Security Disability benefits, having a lawyer on your side that has a strong knowledge of how the Social Security Disability claims [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] process works is critical and can greatly improve your chances of getting your case approved in the application stage or at the hearing [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] level.
