Most Ghanaian Prints Have Deep Meanings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Why do Africans love wearing western cloths? Do African cloths or prints have meanings? Don't you think is about time we hold onto our culture, which represents our dignity?
I have observed that when foreigners visit my country Ghana. You will get to know that they take delight in appreciating the cultural heritage by really getting intrigued and engrossed with our way of life. Talking about our African dress, the food we eat, the way we live etc.
Africans are sitting on a gold mine but they decide to go to another country in search of gold,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. We need to proud ourselves with our culture than derailing to hold onto other country's culture,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
I was once in at home with my grandma and a relative came in with a bag,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. She affectionately greeted my grandma and she was offered a seat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
My grandma asked her what had triggered her presence. She started that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], due to the funeral of one our relatives. She came over to show the cloth they had selected for the funeral to my grandma and also to seek her consent on that choice.
It was a black and white print. She handed over the piece of cloth to my Grandma. My grandma then asked her if she had checked the name of the cloth. She said, "it's was called "obaatan pa ye" meaning good parenting is honorable.
My grandma observed the pattern and texture of the print and said it was good.
As my grandma was about to handover the cloth to our relative, I asked her,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], how come she got to know that was the name of the cloth?
She answered that it was written along the tip of the cloth with the name of the company which designed the print.
I was marveled and fascinated about the deep meaning of the print and felt to know more about these cloths,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
After our relative had left, I decided to ask my grandma some questions about cloths.
I asked her how can one identify a quality African print or cloth? She answered that; one should check the printing company, texture of the material and the price at which it's being sold. Since cheap things don't last.
I had the opportunity also to do a story for a television program with a friend called Saul who came from the UK.
The crux of the story was to enquire from Ghanaians that, despite the fact that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it has been declared publicly that on every Friday all Ghanaians going to work are to wear African prints, why do some of the youth still wear the western attire on that said day?
It was a really educating and inciting program for the youth to wear their African prints,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
At a point,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we went to interview a woman who sold African prints. We asked her to show us some of the prints and to tell us their meaning if they had one.
She showed us different types and told us some names of the prints and their meanings. Some were,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "good beads don't speak" meaning a person of character does not boast. Another was also called,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "the back of the tortoise".
Saul asked what was really significant about a tortoise's back and the woman answered that, the protection it serves and its beauty if you take a critical look at it.
She continued with another cloth named, "Gye Nyame(only God) meaning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], apart from God there is no other.
With these you can also ask of the name and meaning anytime you find yourself buying an African print and you will learn a lot about the rich and deep culture African Posses,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].相关的主题文章:
