University of Glasgow Semester 1
UQ Program: Bachelor of drugs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Surgery Science
Happening an exchange program with UQ Abroad is definitely an opportunity not to be missed, wherever you are going. As for myself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I chose the University of Glasgow. Immediately upon setting foot in Glasgow on a cold January morning it had been a wild and windy vary from the nice and cozy Australian summer I'd just left out.
Glasgow certainly includes a reputation for as being a rough city, and in some aspects it is (don wear your Celtic jersey and sing loudly at Rangers fans on the game day. You will almost certainly be violently handled.) But as long as you have commonsense, don go to dark areas alone,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], etc,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you be fine. That said the nightlife is very fun especially down Sauchiehall Street. Drinks are also generally cheaper than in Aus.
Geographically, Glasgow is an ideal spot to explore Scotland as numerous cheap trains and buses leave from Glasgow up to the remainder of Scotland,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as well as down to England. London is just over 4 hours away by train and 9 hours by bus. If you are travelling by train,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], get a 18-25 Railcard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you are making back the main difference with just one return visit to London.
Classes wise,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you might be just a little disappointed to find out that there's no lectopia equivalent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so yes, you have to pull yourself together every day and visit school,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even when it is a dark winter morning. However on the brighter side,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], classes are generally easier because there is almost no coursework and more emphasis is placed on the final exams which gives you excellent flexibility to create travel plans during semester! Term ends by Easter, and it one long month of free-time until exams in May so that happens when most students make the big Eurotrip.
I possibly could continue raving about my travel experiences there from the Scottish Highlands,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to quintessential England such as the city life of London and also the great West Country, to France and Spain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but rather I just leave you here with some tips.
1. Book your train journeys early (3 months may be the earliest) as prices increase exponentially the later you book.
2. Consider using a fried Mars bar in the University Caf (it an old-style diner just Ten minutes walk from the Uni of Glasgow). Pleasure experienced is directly proportional to damage completed to health. It is extremely literally, using this planet.
3. Join the International Students Society (ISS) they organise trips throughout Scotland and Northern England for you personally every weekend,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and therefore are affordable. Great help if you're a newcomer as it takes the hassle of planning away. Pretty good possibility to meet fellow exchange students I made many friends there. However once you understand how you can organise your personal trips, do it yourself. It cheaper, and much more flexible.
4,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Obtain a good raincoat and waterproof shoes - it rains in Glasgow every second day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. You can purchase these cheap and proficient at Mountain Warehouse,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. (It a series.)
5. Take at least one trip with the Glencoe region in Scotland. It is simply breathtaking and it where Braveheart, Harry Potter, Mission impossible, and Trainspotting were flimed; just to name some. If going through car,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], drive up past Loch Lomond and continue on the A82.
