"Blue Suede Shoes" was originally written and first recorded by rockabilly musician Carl Perkins in 1955,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Carl Perkins wrote the song after seeing a fellow at a local tavern get his blue suede shoes scuffed up by his date while they were dancing.

It was released on January 1st,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 1956 and became a US No. 1 Billboard Country Music Hit. Carl Perkins made his television debut on the same night, singing "Blue Suede Shoes" on ABC-TV's Country Music show "Ozark Jubilee."
In April 1956 "Blue Suede Shoes" continued to rise in popularity. In the UK, "Blue Suede Shoes" reached No. 10 on the British Charts. "Blue Suede Shoes" was also the 1st record ever to sell a million copies by Sun Studios, Carl Perkins record label. Elvis first sang "Blue Suede Shoes on the CBS-TV's Variety Series "Stage Show on February 11,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 1956. Elvis Presley's version of Blue Suede Shoes reached #20 on the US Billboard Best Seller List and #9 on the UK chart in 1956.
