Black dogs are so unpopular in Saskatchewan, they're being sent to British Columbia for a better chance of being adopted.
Debbi Lehner, manager of the Prince Albert SPCA in Saskatchewan, says black dogs are often passed over for adoption in favour of lighter-coloured animals.
It's believed some potential owners might find lighter-coloured dogs more attractive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Three more dogs are on their way today and another three are scheduled to travel next week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The animals are transported by air with the help of Air Angels, a group of 200 Westjet employees who use their employee travel benefits and their days off to escort rescued dogs and cats across the country.
"We are just so delighted that they have taken these dogs, these dogs have been here the longest," said Lehner.
"They have their own individual personalities,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Their uniqueness is no different from your little white poodles or your black and tan shepherds,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
The SPCA says potential pet owners should base their decisions on the temperament of the animal, rather than on colour and looks.

HuffPost High School welcomes a lively,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], thoughtful debate in the comment section. He had been horribly abused by his original family who were trying to make a "tough guy" out of him but only ended up breaking his spirit instead.
Even though he is a gentle and timid dog,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the fact that he is big, black and wolf-like in appearance has made most people who saw him or came into contact with him nervous. I could confidently walk with him anywhere, at any time of the day or night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because people gave him a lot of respect and a wide berth simply because of how he looked.
He has been my best friend, there through good times and bad, and now that he's an old man, frail and with sight failing, it's my turn to protect him.
I met them in November 2012 when they arranged to transport my kitten from a Sask. rescue group to Vancouver. The West Jet volunteers were just so incredibly giving of their time (their own time) to make all the arrangements and coordination.
The same day they were transporting my kitten,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they were also transporting an 11 year old dog, whom the owner didn't want anymore because he was "too old". Luckily, there was a happy family who wanted to adopt him from one of the islands who had a farm where the dog would be well looked after and the farm to roam around on during his retirement years.
