From here you can ride one-stop to Saphan Taksin and the river area, or continue on to other stations.
THINGS TO SEE ON FOOT: There is a string of great hotels such as the Oriental (haunt of royalty and film stars),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Shangri La and the Royal Orchid Sheraton. Each one of these landmark hotels are accessible down little sois (streets) off the major north/south New Road (shown on maps as Charoen Krung Road).
BEST VIEW: It's in the top of the new five-star all-suites Lebua Hotel within the State Tower Building in the corner of New Road and Silom.
From 6pm the 64th floor's fine-dining restaurants and open-air Sirocco restaurant and bar (fast becoming the mecca for Bangkok's trendy set) are open for business along with a breathtaking vista of the city.

The Chao Phraya River Express ferry runs up and down the river with fares from around 50 cents. We prefer to visit any pier, flag down a passing longtail (fast local craft) haggle for some minutes after which,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for around $15 an hour, get him to take us on our own private tour.
