OGDEN -- Guests to the first, bi-annual Northern Utah Fashion Expo spruced up their wardrobes on Saturday with the help of more than 20 local vendors showcasing their goods at the Only in Ogden Store, 2246 Washington Blvd.
Products ranged from vintage clothing and cowboy boots from Chuks to fun steampunk fashions,Police Sunglasses, from Laughing Dog Designs Unlimited to stunning replicas of pre-Columbian jewelry from Galleon's Gold.
Vendors donated products and services to a silent auction held at the expo, with all proceeds from the auction going to benefit the Ogden High School Choir. Guests were also encouraged to bring canned food to the expo for a canned food drive benefitting the Marshall White Center.
Live music was provided by the Ogden High School Choir, Chris Aguilar, Rick Gerber, Chris Cullen, Queen of Swords, DJ Vagif, Burnell Washburn, and Jon Turner. A runway was constructed in the middle of the event space and three different fashion shows exhibited fashion designs from the expo's vendors.
Carrie Gerber,Dior Sunglasses, owner of Chuks and co-founder of the Northern Utah Fashion Expo,G-STAR, said the event encourages community participation and growth.
"It gives everyone something to do," said Gerber. "From volunteers, to vendors, to models, the businesses get to advertise and make money, and we're raising money for kids."
Volunteer greeter Heather Haskett was excited to donate her time to the expo.
"It showcases so much of the amazing talent here in Ogden," Haskett said. "This town is just blossoming with creativity and this is a great way to showcase it. Plus, it's just fun."
Guests were able to change into their new clothes, get their hair and makeup done by Ogden Organix (whose stylists donated their time and supplies to making the models runway-ready),New Balance Men Sneakers, then get a photo of their new look taken by Ingrid's photography.
"I love it. It's really my kind of thing," said Jessica Breese of Pleasant View. "I feel local businesses are really important. I work for WalMart and I'd still rather shop at local companies because without them we wouldn't have much of a city to thrive in."
Gerber said she hopes to have the next Northern Utah Fashion Expo this summer at a local park. Gerber explained that an outdoor setting would allow room for more vendors. |
